With ten Awards at “World Beer Awards” in England and eight Awards at the Merano Wine Festival, Birra Cala confirms its position at the top of the quality of the international beer world. The competition, which has been held in the United Kingdom for ten years, is organised by “The Drinks Report”, the most renowned online magazine in the beverage sector, has awarded the brewery the following awards. Important confirmation for Bock Delirio, already awarded as Best Bock in the world in 2023, which with its firm and round body, conquers the Gold Medal and first place in Italy as Country Winner for the second year in a row.
Gold medal and Country Winner award also for the “Diavolicchia”: the spicy Golden Ale, soft and rounded, with the strong character of the chili pepper, symbol of Calabria. Silver medal for Citrusina and Giubilo. The first is a fresh and thirst-quenching blanche that celebrates the sacred Cedar fruit, the symbolic citrus fruit of the Riviera dei Cedri, the location where the brewery was born. The latter is a gluten-free European lager, designed for beer lovers with specific dietary needs.
The American IPA Euforia won bronze, having previously secured first place among Calabrian IPAs in the Beer Calabria competition.
The World Beer Awards judges, selected among bartenders, journalists, brand ambassadors, consultants and buyers, also awarded silver and bronze medals to the IGA di Calabria beers through their strictly blind tastings. These beers are the result of an important collaborative project initiated by Birra Cala with some of the region's most iconic wineries.
Birra Cala's debut year at the competition “Wine Hunter Awards” which awards prizes that allow access to the prestigious Merano Wine Festival. The awards aim to select the excellences in wine, beer, but also in the agri-food and spirits sectors. Birra Cala's result was outstanding with eight awards. Five “Wine Hunter Gold Award” to “Diaviolicchia” , “Citrusina” And “Giubilo”. Wine Hunter Award also for the Coffee Stout Águila Negra and for the IGA Statti, (made from Greco Nero grapes) and the IGA Antonella Lombardo (made from Gaglioppo grapes).
Significant for the project “IGA of Calabria” that the jury of the Merano Wine Festival has awarded the “Wine Hunter Red Award” , comparable to the English silver, to the three beers that make up the quintet, namely “Spadafora” , “Casa Commerci” And “Librandi” . Antonio De Caprio, who today leads the brewery together with his brothers Alfredo, Marida and Marco, expresses his «great satisfaction for these results» and he admirably emphasizes that the brewery was born only two years ago, thanks to the brilliant intuition he shared with his father, Luigi.
An exchange of ideas between father and son, which first became a dream and, today, a solid reality.
«The significant number of awards won in England – continues Antonio De Caprio – confirms the quality of our beers and the continuity of our work, made of passion, commitment and winning strategies. Eight awards at our debut in the prestigious and exclusive world of the Merano Wine Festival are proof that Birra Cala, with its strong Calabrese identity, is part of the craft breweries that can have their say at a national level and beyond. The awards to our IGAs – concludes De Caprio – confirm that being able to work as a team to promote identity and excellence, rewards at the highest levels».
